The New Leathern Bottle's Murderous History... Hold on to your hats, or they may go mysteriously missing! In the mid 1800s the Leathern Bottle, as it was then, was owned and run by the Careys. Hannah Carey was known to be a loose woman and would make herself available to the men of the area. John Carey, the landlord, put up with his wife's behaviour for some time before finally deciding to publicly beat the habit out of her. Hannah took to wearing large hats to hide her bruises. One day John arrived home in a rage and threw their large heavy bed on top of his wife and then jumped on it. Hannah was mortally injured but survived for another month before finally succumbing to her injuries. Have you seen Hannah Carey's ghost? Do you still have your hat? |
